Dolphins WR Chambers arrested for DWI (AP)
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers was arrested early Saturday on charges of driving while impaired and speeding. Chambers, 28, was arrested by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police around 2:30 a.m., several miles south of downtown, said police Capt. Lisa Goelz. He faces charges of driving while impaired, speeding, and reckless driving, she said.

Colts, Freeney agree to 6 years, $72M (AP)
The Indianapolis Colts have signed defensive end Dwight Freeney to a long-term contract that will make him among the NFL's most highly paid defensive players. Freeney and the Colts agreed to a six-year, $72 million contract that includes a $30 million signing bonus, Freeney's agent, Gary Wichard, said Friday.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers won't face criminal charges following a review of an exotic dancer's claims that he inappropriately touched her. A 20-year-old woman who dances at a club on Detroit's west side made the complaint last month against the 6-foot-4, 345-pound Lions standout, claiming he entered her dressing room where she was changing.

Rams CB Fakhir Brown suspended 4 games (AP)
Rams cornerback Fakhir Brown was suspended Friday for the first four games next season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The league didn't reveal the specific nature of the violation. Brown's agent, Ted Marchibroda, didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment. Brown's suspension will begin Aug.

Jags OT Barnes gets 6 months probation (AP)
Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Khalif Barnes has been sentenced to six months probation after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge. Barnes, 25, pleaded no contest last week. Duval County Judge James Ruth on Wednesday also sentenced him to pay $650 in fines and court costs, perform 50 hours of community service, attend a drunken driving class and have his driver's license suspended...

The NBA players association is considering an appeal of the seven-game suspensions given to Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson for legal issues. Both players were suspended by the league Saturday without pay and are scheduled to miss the first seven games of next season. Artest would lose a little more than $470,000 in salary, about $50,000 more than Jackson.

Report: G Mo Williams to stay with Bucks (AP)
Milwaukee Bucks point guard Mo Williams reportedly agreed to a six-year, $52 million deal, rejecting an offer from the Miami Heat. "The entire organization made it clear how important Mo was to them and their future," Williams' agent, Mark Bartelstein said in a story posted Saturday on the Web site of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Trail Blazers' Oden has tonsils removed (AP)
Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Greg Oden had his tonsils removed Saturday. The tonsillectomy was performed at The Vancouver Clinic in Vancouver, Wash., and the recovery time for the No. 1 pick in last month's NBA draft is expected to take two to three weeks, the Trail Blazers said. Oden, 19, has been plagued by sore throats and had trouble breathing in the Las Vegas summer league last week.

Nets reach agreement with Magloire (AP)
A day after losing center Mikki Moore to free agency, the New Jersey Nets reached an agreement in principle with former All-Star Jamaal Magloire on Saturday. The deal is contingent on Magloire passing a physical. Contract terms were not immediately available. The Nets also announced that they had requested waivers on guard Hassan Adams.

Wizards, Stevenson agree to deal (AP)
Unrestricted free agent DeShawn Stevenson and the Washington Wizards have agreed on a contract to keep the shooting guard with the club. The team wouldn't disclose the terms of the deal, but it's reportedly worth $15 million over four years. The Wizards are expected to formally announce the signing next week.

The Atlanta Thrashers signed free agent center Alexandre Giroux to a multiyear deal Friday.
