Bills deal holdout DT Walker to Bears (AP)
The Chicago Bears acquired defensive tackle Darwin Walker in a trade with Buffalo on Sunday, landing a veteran to replace Tank Johnson. The Bills, meanwhile, acquired a draft pick in return, and dropped a player who refused to report to Buffalo in a contract dispute. The Bills obtained Walker in March in a trade that sent linebacker Takeo Spikes and backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb to Philadelphia.
QB Couch signs 2-year deal with Jaguars (AP)
Tim Couch's agent sent a memo to all NFL teams a few weeks ago, letting them know the former No. 1 draft pick was healthy again and looking for a place to play. The Jacksonville Jaguars were the first to call and Couch jumped at the opportunity. He signed a two-year contract with the Jaguars on Sunday, getting a chance to revive his career as a backup to quarterback Byron Leftwich.

With Michael Strahan holding out and considering retirement, the New York Giants plan to give recently released defensive end Simeon Rice a physical on Wednesday. Strahan, 35, stunned the Giants on Friday when he failed to show up for training camp at the University at Albany. His agent said that Strahan was considering retirement after 14 NFL seasons.

It was just like old times in New Orleans with another championship decided. It was just like old times for the San Jose SaberCats with another title won. The SaberCats beat the Columbus Destroyers 55-33 in Sunday's ArenaBowl to earn their third Arena League title in six years. It was the first team championship decided in the city since Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005.

Suns' Bell has arthroscopic knee surgery (AP)
Suns guard Raja Bell had surgery on his right knee and will sidelined four to six weeks. The arthroscopic surgery was performed Thursday. Team physician Dr. Tom Carter said Bell had mild wear and tear of his kneecap. The doctor said Bell's play should not be limited after the four-to-six week period. Bell averaged 14.7 points and 2.5 assists this season.
Heat sign PG 'Smush' Parker (AP)
Free-agent point guard William "Smush" Parker signed Friday with the Miami Heat, his seventh team since turning pro in 2002. The deal came after the Heat failed to land several other point guards they pursued, including Mo Williams, Steve Francis and Steve Blake. "We feel very good about acquiring Smush," coach Pat Riley said in a statement.
Bulls sign draft picks Noah, Gray (AP)
The Chicago Bulls have signed first-round draft choice Joakim Noah, along with second-round selection Aaron Gray. Noah, selected ninth overall, averaged 12.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks as a junior last season, when the Florida Gators became the first program to win back-to-back titles in 15 years.
Habs, Ryder agree to 1-yr., $2.95M deal (AP)
The Montreal Canadiens and right wing Michael Ryder avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $2.95 million, one-year contract Sunday. Ryder's hearing was set for Monday in Toronto. He made $2.2 million last season. The Canadiens have all their players under contract for 2007-08. Ryder played in all 82 games last season, led the team with 30 goals and added 28 assists to go with 60 penalty minutes.
Sabres C Roy agrees to 6 years, $24M (AP)
Sabres forward Derek Roy avoided NHL arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a six-year, $24 million contract with Buffalo. It's a hefty deal for a third-line center coming off a career season in which he finished fifth on the Sabres with 63 points (21 goals, 42 assists) in 75 games. The deal represents a significant raise for Roy, who made $627,000 last year.
