A group led by former Florida Panthers coach Doug MacLean has agreed to buy the Tampa Bay Lightning and says it has no plans to move the franchise that won its only Stanley Cup three years ago. The Edmonton Oilers are not for sale. That was the message Tuesday from Cal Nichols, chairman of the 33-member group that owns and operates the NHL franchise. Right wing Arron Asham, who appeared in a career-high 80 games with the New York Islanders last season, signed a 1-year, $700,00 contract with the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Asham, a free agent, has played seven seasons in the NHL -- the last four with the Islanders. He had 11 goals and 12 assists last season.
Kings LW Cammalleri gets 2-year deal (AP)
Michael Cammalleri, who led the Los Angeles Kings in scoring last season then became a restricted free agent, has agreed to a two-year contract. An NHL arbitrator awarded the Kings' left wing the deal worth $6.7 million. The 25-year-old Cammalleri will make $3.1 million for the upcoming season and $3.6 for the next.
Blue Jackets sign C Beech to 1-year deal (AP)
Center Kris Beech signed a one-year contract Tuesday with the Columbus Blue Jackets after totaling a career-high 26 points with the Washington Capitals last season. The 26-year-old Beech had eight goals and 18 assists in 64 games last season with Washington. He has 19 goals and 37 assists in 173 career games with Washington, Nashville and Pittsburgh.
Ducks' Giguere has sports hernia surgery (AP)
Anaheim Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere had surgery Monday to repair a sports hernia injury, and the Stanley Cup champions expect him to recover in time for training camp. Giguere had the operation in North Carolina and could rejoin the team for its first practice on Sept. 10. The Montreal native led the Ducks to their first Stanley Cup title last season.
Tampa C Craig gets $850K in arbitration (AP)
Tampa Bay Lightning center Ryan Craig will make $850,000 next season under a one-year contract awarded by an arbitrator on Monday. Craig, the only Tampa Bay player to file for arbitration this summer, sought a one-year, $1.2 million deal. The Lightning offered $650,000 for one year during a hearing last Friday in Toronto.
