Michael Vick and his attorneys were still negotiating with federal prosecutors Thursday, hoping to strike a deal on a plea agreement, according to a lawyer familiar with the case. The lawyer spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because of the ongoing discussions. The Atlanta Falcons star quarterback pleaded not guilty to dogfighting conspiracy charges last month.

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese hasn't talked to holdout defensive end Michael Strahan in a while and has no clue when the seven-time Pro Bowl player will make a decision on whether to retire. Giants, Jets close $1.3B stadium deal (AP)
The New York Giants and Jets closed deals Thursday for $1.3 billion in financing for a new stadium the NFL clubs are teaming to build. "This represents another step forward in the completion of this exciting project," said Alice McGillion, a spokeswoman for New Meadowlands Stadium Corp. Each team completed separate $650 million financing deals.

Once Donovan McNabb eludes a sack and scrambles for a gain, most observers will say that No. 5 is back. Bartow named Grizzlies president (AP)
Gene Bartow, a former coach at Memphis State and UCLA, was hired Thursday as president of Hoops LP, the company that operates the Memphis Grizzlies and their arena, the FedExForum. Bartow was chosen NCAA coach of the year in 1973 after leading the Tigers to the NCAA finals against powerhouse UCLA. Memphis State is now called the University of Memphis.

The Washington Wizards traded the rights to Spanish guard Juan Carlos Navarro to the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday for a future first-round draft pick. The Wizards drafted Navarro in the second round, 40th overall, in 2002. He never joined the team, though, instead playing for FC Barcelona in the Spanish league.

Bosh leaves US camp with foot injury (AP)
Toronto forward Chris Bosh withdrew from U.S. training camp Wednesday because of a left foot injury. Bosh has plantar fasciitis and will not play in the FIBA Americas tournament that starts next week, USA Basketball spokesman Craig Miller said. The 6-foot-10, 230-pound Bosh will remain on the team and under consideration for a spot if the Americans qualify for the 2008 Olympics.

The San Antonio Spurs signed free agent swingman Ime Udoka on Thursday. Ukoka, who was undrafted out of Portland State, averaged 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 75 games with the Portland Trail Blazers last season. Free-agent guard Robert Hite signed with the New Jersey Nets on Thursday. Hite played in 12 games for the Miami Heat last season, averaging 4.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 11.3 minutes. He also appeared in 19 games for the Sioux Falls Sky Force of the NBA Development League, averaging 14.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

The Phoenix Coyotes signed goalie Alex Auld to a one-year contract on Monday. Auld, 26, went 7-13-5 with a 3.34 goals-against average last season with Florida. He is 46-44-13 in five NHL seasons with Florida and Vancouver, with a 2.89 GAA and .902 save percentage. Auld played for Canada in the 2006 World Hockey Championship and won a bronze medal with Canada at the 2001 World Junior Championship.

Defenseman Joe DiPenta signed a one-year contract with the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.
